WhiteHat Security Certified Secure Developers

After several hours of webinars and coursework, we are happy to announce that Josh and Adam are now WhiteHat Security Certified Secure Developers. Overall, we learned that we generally tend to  implement secure practices in our code already. A lot of that probably has to do with our years of experience in the software development field.

The training was a great refresher to help remind us why we do the things we do. It’s also great to have a certification to go along with the best practices we carry out in our code today.

Isn’t functioning software more important than security?

Functioning software is definitely important, but when you approach a project with a security mindset you can build it into every level of your application. Oftentimes security is an afterthought, which requires a lot of extra work, time, and cost to implement later. That’s why it can sometimes be ignored. It’s best to think about it early in the project and architect it into an application from the beginning.

With all the recent data breaches at Equifax, Chipotle, and Target (just to name a few), security is an important thing to keep in mind. You don’t want your application to be on the nightly news or the front page of the newspaper. Always keep a security in mind when developing your application. If you’re hiring someone to work on an application for you, ask the right questions to until you feel comfortable with the outcome. Finally, test for security holes all the way through the development process.

If you have any questions, please contact us. We’d love to talk with you about your project, whether it in the future on ongoing.
